💰 Your Student Finance Entitlement

As a UK resident, you could be eligible for full funding through Student Finance England. Here's what's available for the 2025/26 academic year.

🏫

Tuition Fee Loan

Up to £9,250 per year

Covers 100% of your tuition fees. Paid directly to the university — you never see the bill. Available regardless of household income.

🏠

Maintenance Loan — Living at Home

Up to £8,877 per year

Covers your living costs while you study. Paid directly into your bank account in three instalments across the year.

🏢

Maintenance Loan — Away from Home

Up to £10,544 per year

Higher rate if you live away from home outside London. Helps cover rent, bills, food, and study materials.

🏙️

Maintenance Loan — London

Up to £13,762 per year

The highest Maintenance Loan rate for students studying at a London campus. Reflects the higher cost of living in the capital.

👨‍👩‍👧

Parents' Learning Allowance

Up to £2,024 per year

Non-repayable grant. Extra help for full-time students with dependent children — on top of your Maintenance Loan. Income-assessed.

🧒

Childcare Grant

Up to 85% of childcare costs

Up to £199.62/week for 1 child or £342.24/week for 2 or more children. Non-repayable — you never pay this back. Income-assessed.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑

Adult Dependants' Grant

Up to £3,545 per year

Non-repayable grant. For students with an adult who depends on them financially — such as a partner or elderly relative.

Disabled Students' Allowance

Extra Support Available

Non-repayable. Covers specialist equipment, non-medical helper support, and extra travel costs based on individual needs — not household income.

📋 How Does Repayment Work?

You only start repaying when you're earning £25,000 or more per year (Plan 5). You repay just 9% of the amount above £25,000 — not your whole salary.

✅ Any remaining balance is written off completely after 40 years.
If your income drops below the threshold, repayments stop automatically. It works more like a graduate contribution than a traditional loan — most graduates will never repay the full amount.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Student Finance, eligibility, and how Spec Study helps.

To be eligible, you must be a UK national or have settled status, have been living in the UK for at least 3 years before starting your course, and be studying a qualifying course at a recognised institution. EU and international students may have different eligibility — contact us and we'll help you check.

Yes — under the Plan 5 repayment system, you only start repaying when your income exceeds £25,000 per year. You then repay 9% of the amount above £25,000 (not 9% of your total salary). If your income drops below £25,000 at any point, repayments stop automatically. After 40 years, any remaining balance is written off entirely. Most graduates never repay the full amount.

Most of our courses offer a Foundation Year entry route — designed specifically for people who don't have traditional qualifications. The Foundation Year builds your academic skills and subject knowledge before you progress to the full degree. You don't need A-Levels or BTECs for Foundation Year entry. We'll help find the right pathway for your situation.

Yes — 100% free for students. We are a student recruitment service. Our income comes from our partner universities, who pay us a commission when we help a student enrol. You never pay us anything — not now, not later. There are no hidden fees and no catches.

Absolutely. Many of our courses are designed for working adults. LSC requires just 4 hours per week (2 days × 2 hours). QA University runs 1 day on campus and 1 day online. GBS offers weekend and evening options. Even the most intensive option (University of Greenwich) is 3 days per week. Our students regularly balance work, family, and study.

If you have dependent children, you could be eligible for the Parents' Learning Allowance (up to £2,024/year, non-repayable) and the Childcare Grant covering up to 85% of childcare costs (up to £199.62/week for 1 child or £342.24/week for 2+). If you have an adult dependant, the Adult Dependants' Grant provides up to £3,545/year — also non-repayable. These are grants, not loans — you never pay them back.

We offer courses in London, Manchester, Birmingham, and Leeds. Each provider has different campus locations — QA University covers London, Manchester, and Birmingham. LSC is in London and Birmingham. GBS is in all four cities. Universal Higher Education is in London (Greenwich), and University of Greenwich is also in London.

Student Finance England typically takes 6–8 weeks to process applications once submitted. The university application and enrolment can usually be completed in 2–4 weeks. We recommend contacting us at least 2–3 months before your preferred start date. The sooner you reach out, the smoother the process — and we handle most of the paperwork for you.

There is no upper age limit for university or Student Finance. Our students range from 18 to 50+. Many are mature students returning to education after years in work or raising a family. Student Finance England funding is available regardless of age — the only age-related rule is that you must be under 60 on the first day of your course to get a Maintenance Loan (Tuition Fee Loans have no age cap).

Student Finance England offers extensive support for students with children and dependants. The Childcare Grant covers up to 85% of registered childcare costs, the Parents' Learning Allowance provides extra money for course-related costs, and the Adult Dependants' Grant supports students caring for an adult. These are all grants — meaning they're non-repayable. Combined with flexible study schedules (as little as 4 hours/week), studying as a parent is more achievable than you might think.
